Hip Pickles (1989 - 2004)

Drum Corps-Style Entertainment

When I joined Hip Pickles in 1990 it was a competitive drum quartet in the Drum Corps Associates East Cost circuit. In the '90s, Hip Pickles maintained the title of DCA Percussion Quartet Champions for six years in a row. I carried the title of Individual Multi-Toms Champion for two of those years. Between championships, Hip Pickles was mainly a parade/concert group performing at events such as the Southampton 4th of July Parade and the Serenade in Brass Concert at the Forum in Harrisburg, PA. We were also street performers at the South Street Seaport in New York City.

Eventually, Hip Pickles decided to become a full-time act. Our performance raster featured major festivals, corporate & sporting events, drum industry shows, Arts-in-Education shows and drum clinics. We were on TV and radio in the US and Canada and also released a few albums which were self-distributed. We also had endorsements from Pearl Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Pro-Mark Drumsticks, Remo Drumheads, and Gibraltar Hardware. Today, Hip Pickles is a sort of entertainment company featuring two groups - Hip Pickles (duet) and Zap Boom Bam which has about 10 members.
